Skin Health

Here are some simple ways to maintain a healthy complection.

  1. Wash your face two times a day with a gentle cleanser prescribed by you clinician followed with an acidic toner to inhibit bacteria on your skin.
  2. Use a fresh washcloth every time you cleanse (bacteria can grow on damp cloth), and change your pillow cases frequently.
  3. Wash your hands more frequently and avoid putting your fingers and hands to your face unnecessarily.
  4. Don't squeeze, pick, scratch, or rub your skin. Scars may form if you squeeze pimples.
  5. Don't rest your face on your hands while you read, study, or watch TV.
  6. Wipe down your cell phone and any other phones you use as they can retain bacteria that will irritate your skin.
  7. Shampoo your hair at least twice a week. Pull your hair away from your face when you sleep.
  8. Avoid any sun exposure, use SPF 25+ daily and reapply frequently if outdoors.
  9. Avoid extreme stress if possible. Practice stress reduction strategies such as exercise, meditation, and counseling if stress is extreme.
  10. Get physical exercise regularly. Wash as soon as possible after you exercise.
  11. Keep your follow-up appointments with your clinician. Keep a record of what has been tried and how it has worked. There are many alternatives for you and your clinician to try, so don't give up!
