Vitamin A

Vitamin A is the star vitamin in treating skin conditions producing many of the effects of the drugs retin-A and accutane without the side effects. Vitamin A can control sebaceous activity, thin out sebum and reduce your skin?s sensitivity to androgens(a source of inflammation.) Be cautious to follow any manufacturers directions as Vitamin A can be dangerous if overdosed. (recommended dose 10,000 i.u. 2x per day)

Vitamin B2 & B3 & B5

The B?s and specifically B5 have been shown to help metabolize fats as well as break down sebum. The recommended dose is 200mg of B5 daily and B-Complex according to manufacturer.

Vitamin E

As a potent anti-oxidant, vitamin E is important for skin repair and retards cellular aging. It also promotes the absorption of Vitamin A. The Recommended dose is 400 i.u. daily.

Vitamin C

This antioxidant aids in healing and fighting inflammation. (Recommended dose 500-1000 mg per day, revert to lower dose if consuming adequate serving of fruit & veggies)

Zinc

Zinc is essential for absorption of Vitamin A and also regulates levels of Vitamin E in the blood. It also boosts the immune system and helps kill acne bacteria. (Recommended dose 15 mg/day.)

Selenium

Selenium is needed for skin elasticity it also controls infection and supports immune function. It also boosts the action of the other anti-oxidants. (Recommended dose 200 mg daily.)

Magnesium

This mineral seems to play a major role in hormone balance and imbalance hormones are a major cause of acne. (Dose according to manufacturer.)

Essential Fatty Acids( EFAs)

EFAs are the major building blocks of body fat, including that which is contained under your skin. This is the collagen that keeps pimples, cuts and irritations from leaving scars, pits and crated. EFAs also produce prostaglandins, which work to reduce inflammation.

Other remedies

Evening Primrose Oil is excellent for treating pre-menstrual syndrome and menopause- it does so by altering the hormonal balance and production of prostaglandins. For the same reasons it is very helpful for acne sufferers.
